Vertical labelling adhesives- Pick up and gluelap rotery machine

Vertical labelling machines with a pick-up and gluelap installation are mostly modern machines.Typical production speeds are 40.000 products per hour. Our best hot melt products are:

  • HM 1474 (Very high molten tack, bonding on practical all label qualities, works good on roller and spray applications, can cope with expansion of the packaging)
  • HM 356 (no residual tack (non-sticky) hot melt adhesive

The roller-rotating* technique is mostly as follows:

  • The Hot melt is being applied on a roller and taken over by a shaped roller
  • The shaped roller applies hot melt adhesive on the can (bottle etc.)
  • The can takes a label out of the label-magazine
  • By rotating the can the label is applied, brushes do press the label firmly
  • On the second hot melt station the glue lap adhesive is being applied the can.
  • The label is being pressed upon the gluelap.

Typical requirements for the adhesive:

  • High molten tack at the moment of pick-up
  • Good flowing properties, to apply a very thin layer of hotmelt
  • No spinning, to prevent smearing
  • No spitting
  • No residual tack, to prevent smearing again

* Rollers could be changed by spray nozzles that apply the hotmelt.

Horizontal labelling (pick up and glue lap)

Horizontal machines are mostly aged and hard to change formats. Most of the time it is a can labelling application with relative high production speeds, typical of 25.000 products per hour. Our most succesfull products:

  • HM 356 (high tack, no smearing)
  • VA 7** (long open time waterbased adhesive)

The technique

  • A can roles towards the hotmelt applicator (horizontal roller)
  • The can is being applied with hotmelt
  • The can makes exactly one turnaround and picks up the label
  • In one turnaround the label is being rolled around the can
  • The end of the label has been applied with adhesive already, and alltogether, it sticks on the glue lap

Typical requirements for the adhesive

  • No smearing, especially with the first turn around.
  • Good tack
  • Good melting rate of the hot melts, not to large packaging.
  • Glue lap adhesive: good bond on versatile substrates, long open time, reasonable wettack.
