Rotery machines

Rotery machines are often used in distilleries and beer breweries. They usually run with casein based adhesives. Typical production speeds are 8.000-80.000 products per hour. Typically most bottles are made of glass. The labelling technique is as follows:

• Adhesive is being applied on the vertical roller
• Adhesive is taken over on "pallets" from the roller.
• The pallets take a label from the magazine
• The label is taken over by "fingers" and turned backward-forwards
• The label (that is applied with adhesive) is being applied on the bottle

To realise production speeds up to 80.000 bottels per hour it is important for the adhesive to:

• Have a high initial tack ("wettack")
• The adhesive does not splashes (no spurting, spitting)
• The adhesive acts stable on the roller

In line labelling machine

Inline labelling machines are often used in the food packaging industry and at distilleries. In line labelling machines are easy with changing formats and they are easier to use for most operators. Maximum capacity is about 30.000-50.000 products per hour and typical speeds are around 5.000-10.000 products per hour. Most packaging can be labelled on inline machines, such as jars, bottles (plastic and glass) and (tin) cans. In most applications waterbased adhesives are used on these machines. The technique is more simple in comparison to rotery machines:

• Adhesive
• Er wordt een lijmlaag aangebracht op een vertikale wals
• De wals pikt een etiket op uit het etikettenmagazijn
• Het etiket wordt van de wals afgetrokken door naalden (evt. icm. groeven)
• Door de juiste timing wordt het (meestal ronde) voorwerp ge-etiketteerd.

Voor de lijm is het belangrijk dat

• De lijm een goede kleefkracht heeft, maar niet teveel i.v.m. het afnemen van het etiket van de wals
• De lijm goed vloeit over de wals, daar ophoping versmering in de machine geeft

Horizontaal etiketteren - volvlak wals

Het volvlak etiketteren middels een horizontale wals is meestal een handmatige bezigheid en lijkt derhalve meer op het lamineren. Er bestaan echter ook geavanceerde machines die ingepast worden op productielijnen waarbij horizontaal etiketteren noodzaak is. De techniek:

• Een liggende lijmwals draait in een reservoir met lijm
• Een etiket wordt aangeboden aan de lijmwals uit een etikettenmagazijn
• Het etiket wordt van de lijmwals gehaald middels naalden (evt. icm. groeven)
• Het etiket komt direct na het verlaten van de wals op het te etiketteren product

Het is voor de lijm belangrijk dat:

• Deze de juiste tack heeft voor het proces
• Niet spat
• Stabiel loopt op de wals
